Empowering young people
We have been supporting the promotion of youth participation in Honduras.
Military rule, corruption, natural disasters, a huge debt burden and economic inequality, have all contributed to Honduras being the second poorest country in Central America and one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere.

Rising levels of violent crime coupled with human rights violations are undermining growth and democracy and disproportionately affecting the poor.
The YMCA has been present in Honduras since 1990. Y Care International has been working in Honduras since 1984, in partnership with the National Council of YMCAs of Honduras. Our work focuses on strengthening youth activism, including building the capacity of youth-serving organisations to address the needs of marginalised young people more effectively.
