Who are they for?
These grants are open to groups of young people (primarily aged 13-25) from the UK and Ireland. These groups must be linked to a YMCA or youth work organisation (voluntary or statutory) who will hold the money and support your project. We especially want to give money to projects working with black young people and young people who were not born in the UK.
Why do we fund this work?
The world we live in is getting smaller, but how much do we know about issues that affect young people worldwide, every day? Global youth work is all about learning about the world in which we live, making the links between issues affect young people globally and empowering young people to take a stand on things they want to change.
What sort of projects will you fund?
We will fund any project that raises awareness of how global issues affect young people in the Global South. Good youth work practice means this issue should also be relevant to the young people that you work with. We especially want to fund projects where young people run the project themselves.
How you do your project is up to you! In the past we have funded a variety of projects from t-shirt making and song recordings right through to community residentials and sporting events. The important thing is to show that young people are learning more about the world. Check out some of our previous projects at www.ycareinternational.org/gyw
When must this funding be used?
The deadline for applications is 5pm Friday 12 November 2010.
Please note, your project money must be spent by 31 March 2011.
