World Cup special

19 March 2010

This summer, the World Cup is being held in South Africa. Love it or loathe it, we see it as a great opportunity to discuss global issues with young people.

So we’re kicking off with a special competition of our own to give one lucky YMCA the chance to run a global youth work project linked to South Africa.

We’ve worked with YMCAs in South Africa for many years, supporting projects that help thousands of young people on issues such as youth justice, employment and HIV/AIDS. As World Cup fever spreads around the country, this presents a great opportunity to look at the issues that affect young people in South Africa and also those that affect young people at home, including gangs; HIV/AIDS; homelessness; and discrimination.

The winning YMCA will get £1000 to run a global youth work project and the runner up will get £350. In the spirit of the World Cup, we’ve designed a special football-themed application process, which can be completed by young people at your YMCA. Simply download the pdf below and ask them to do the rest!
