On Friday 12th September, YMCA England hosted a Youth Justice in Action Solidarity Day for young people and youth workers in England and Wales.
The event was held in support of a political demonstration in the centre of Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. Young people from YMCA Honduras were protesting against the violence and killing of young people, including former gang members. Find out more here.
Over 30 young people took part, from YMCAs around the country, including Bournemouth, Cardiff, London, Manchester, Port Talbot and West Sussex.
During the day, young people were involved in discussions and workshops, looking at the relationships between young people and authorities, gangs, and the British justice system.
The participants heard about how young people at Kingston & Wimbledon YMCA and Port Talbot and Cardiff YMCAs have been involved in the campaign. They went away with many ideas about how their YMCAs could work with the local community to change the way young people are treated in justice systems.
They also had a chance to sign up to the campaign by filling in postcards which will be taken to the UN Human Rights Council early next year.
