Aliou's story

Aliou is 14-years-old. He is from Diandiallate, a village in the Casamance area of southern Senegal. He and his friends heard about a YMCA project in Casamance helping to rebuild the lives of young people following 27 years of civil war in the country. Aliou decided to train as a Peace and Health Ambassador, learning how to teach his peers about issues of peace and health. "A lot of my friends are peace ambassadors", he comments. Aliou especially enjoyed learning about peacebuilding and benefited from receiving a mosquito net. He wrote a poem about malaria which he reads when his village has big meetings. "Since being involved I have been very happy", he says.
