Youth Workers Network travels to India

14 January 2008

A group of youth workers involved in our Youth Workers Network have set out on a visit to Y Care International projects in India.

The group will visit Kanyakumari, on the southern tip of India, where they will shadow YMCA workers from our partners, the YMCAs of Marthandam and Madurai, who are working to rebuild people’s lives following the devastating Tsunami of 2004.

They will then travel to Nagpur to find out about the innovative work of Nagpur YMCA on HIV/AIDS prevention.

Matthew Jackson, Y Care International’s Director of Campaigns and Global Youth Work said “We want to learn from the YMCA’s work in India and share experiences amongst ourselves and the people we meet. These experiences will help shape our global youth work programmes with young people in the UK and Ireland’.

The youth workers, from YMCAs across the UK, are members of Y Care International’s Youth Workers Network, a forum for YMCA staff and youth workers across the UK and Ireland to share resources, best practice and information about global youth work. To find out more, please email
